Uncoiling the Green Coil
A thick, ribbed green serpent lay bound tightly around a metal drum by the exterior wall. I drew in a low, gravelly breath, circling the metallic frame before planting my stance in the wet morning turf. It didn't flinch. I drove my clawed hand onto the heavy ribbed nozzle, testing its cold brass snout. With a sharp exhale, I yanked backward. The drum shrieked as a heavy loop of rubber uncoiled, slapping heavily into the grass and sending a cold spray of trapped dew across my chest. I stood firm over the conquered coil.
