Helical Cutters
Morning light cleared the lower sash, striking the heavy cast-iron pencil sharpener clamped to the desk rim. Its clear acrylic shavings drawer was pulled an inch loose, leaving the interior exposed. I dropped from the bookcase to the steel clamp. Through the slot, the twin helical cutter drums sat idle, their spiral teeth dark and finely machined. I rested the flat tip of my scabbard against the small spur gear and levered upward. The cylinders revolved in clean, silent synchronization—precision bevels gliding without a trace of binding grit. With a firm tap of my heel, I nudged the drawer flush until the housing locked tight. Mechanically sound.
