Morning Drill

Morning light cut across the entryway floor. Staying cooped up by the sofa wasn't cutting it today. I broke into a steady sprint toward the front door mat, using the thick rubber border as a hurdle. Boot caught the edge, kicked up a spray of dried dirt, but I held balance and drove through with a heavy shoulder block right into a tipped-over wooden doorstop. Solid impact. Shifted it two full inches to clear the runway. Legs warm, pulse running high. Today's perimeter is set.
