A Solid Beat
A heavy gray box sat unplugged on the shelf, thick with dust and real toggle switches. I tapped the silver casing with my knuckle. Dense metal, no hollow ring. Beside the tape deck, a plastic cassette case was propped open like an angled wedge. I braced my boots against the wood plank, reached up, and flicked the center power toggle downward. It clicked with a clean, spring-loaded snap that vibrated right through my forearm. Solid mechanical resistance. I gave the volume dial a quarter turn; smooth glide, zero wobble. Gear built like this doesn't rush.
