Damped Latch
The mechanical eject key on the cassette deck had enough surface area for both boots. I stepped onto the ridged plastic lever and put my weight into a deliberate drop. The internal latch yielded with a dry, solid clack, and the tape door swung open in a slow, oil-damped arc instead of snapping forward. Inside, the twin supply spindles sat aligned in the shadow of the compartment, untouched by dust or loose ribbon. I climbed onto the angled door frame to test the hinge stability. It held steady under my platform soles without wobbling. Damped mechanics beat raw springs every time.
