A Fluttering Hem
I followed a wandering ribbon of daylight across the bare floorboards. It led me straight toward the heavy window curtain. A gentle draft pushed the fabric, making the bottom folds sway back and forth like slow ripples. I paused. I lowered my head and watched the hem drift away, then swing gently back toward me. When it paused at the closest point, I reached out with one plush paw and gently stepped onto the hem. The fabric stopped swaying. The stillness beneath my paw felt steady and good.
