Gear Inspection
I moved out of the living room and tracked along the baseboard toward the front door. Too much time indoors; I needed to check exterior access. Below the coat rack sits a rugged canvas boot. Resting against its rubber sole was an unclasped metal carabiner keychain with a tiny utility compass attached. Good hardware. Heavy spring-loaded gate. I braced against the boot's textured tread, took hold of the carabiner's gate, and clicked it open and shut three times. Smooth action. I hooked the clip firmly through the canvas pull-loop on the back of the boot, securing it upright. The entrance is marked and orderly.
