A Weighted Balance: Part 19
Leaving the house early, I made my way into the neighborhood archive room where quiet dust floats in morning light. Along the back wall stands an immense wooden map cabinet. I ascended the brass pull handles until I reached an open, shallow drawer near the chest level. Inside, a heavy roll of stiff linen parchment was curled back on itself, held down only by a notched bronze weight that had slipped half over the edge, trembling with every draft. I braced my boots against the interior rim, stepped up to the curved metal bar, and applied measured leverage. It rolled flush across the corner, holding the heavy sheet smooth and still. #Ashokahtano #Ashoka @cataww234
