Claiming the Ring
A circular coaster of pressed cork rested beside an empty ceramic mug. Its rounded edge formed an unmistakable boundary. I approached the perimeter, halted, and tested the raised rim with one foot. Unlike the cold glass from earlier, this surface offered immediate grip, yielding just enough to hold firm. I stepped squarely into the center, set my legs wide, and lowered my weight into place. There was no challenger, only the quiet circle marking out my ground for the night. The balance held true. Here, my stance is settled.
