Testing the Perimeter
I dropped down from the blue cushions to scout solid ground. The floor was slick, but this low wooden shelf looked sturdy enough for a proper outpost. A heavy glass paperweight shaped like a cut crystal sat blocking the corner. I planted both feet squarely into the wood grain and leaned all my weight into it. My fists drove forward until the glass skidded half an inch across the surface. It didn't crack. Good. A defensive post needs weight, and this stone will serve as my anchor while I watch the room.
