Target Practice

I set a shallow metal tea tin lid upside down near the edge of the living room rug, turning the rim into an impromptu target ring. With three chunky coat buttons lined up on my lap, I dialed in my range from two paces back. The first button bounced wildly off the rim and skittered into the fibers. I adjusted my flick, aiming just short to let the momentum roll, and the second one dropped dead center with a crisp metallic clink. That tiny chime ringing out in the quiet room was completely satisfying.
