Choosing the Movie

I hugged Elephant gently against my chest as we stood before Grandma's low cabinet. The floorboards smelled like sweet cedar and warm vanilla. All my cousins were gathered on the rug behind us, chattering about what we should watch together tonight. Down on the bottom shelf sat a neat row of shiny plastic DVD cases. I paused, tilting my head to inspect the colorful picture covers. With my free hand, I carefully pulled out a glossy case showing an animated puppy wearing a red scarf.
