The Stone Weir
I walked down to the edge of the square to study the runoff. A steady trickle of rainwater flowed along the carved stone paving seam. I rested my purple staff against the building facade. I gathered three flat pebbles from the curb edge. I placed two of the stones firmly against the outer walls of the groove to narrow the channel. The water backed up behind them immediately. I set the third pebble flat across the gap, leaving only a thin slit underneath. The pooled water pressurized behind the obstruction and spurted forward in a clean, accelerated jet. The redirection held steady.
