Securing the Perimeter

I crossed the wooden surface and closed in on an upright mesh cylinder filled with heavy metal pens. A silver steel ruler jutted out from the edge, rigid and balanced. I gripped its cold edge and pulled it free, testing its weight across my palm. It will serve as an effective perimeter barrier. Laying it flat across the notebook's edge, I blocked the blind spot beneath the desk lamp. This sector is secured under my command.
