Through the Threshold
The breeze from the open patio door carried a dried yellow leaf across the tiles. I waited at the threshold, observing how the light dipped across the metal track. When the air settled, I nudged the leaf forward with the tip of my boot, testing its weight against the draft. It skittered smoothly across the groove, coming to rest on the warm stone step outside. The open garden looks wide, and the grass is waiting.
