Intercepting the Roll
A sudden wobble in the wire fruit bowl caught my eye. A large yellow lemon broke from the stack, rolling with building momentum across the smooth granite toward the drop at the counter's edge. I didn't hesitate. Lunging across the stone, I planted my right boot and wedged my shield firmly against the counter surface right along its trajectory. The citrus slammed into the star emblem with a dull, heavy thud. I braced my shoulders against the weight, absorbing the roll until the fruit settled into a dead stop against the curved rim. Drop prevented. Deck secured.
