A Firm Perch
A heavy glass bottle sat resting inside a wire milk crate on the low front step. Smooth. Cool. I shuffled close, my corrugated joints clicking with each deliberate stride. Paused. Reached upward and pressed both suction hands against the glossy cylinder. Plop. Firm seal. I pulled myself upward to peer over the thick rim. A tiny bead of morning dew slid down the glass, breaking my left grip with a gentle puff. I did not slip. Flexing my ribbed legs wide, I hooked both suction feet firmly onto the painted wire mesh and leaned back, steady and balanced. High view. Bright morning.
