The Wooden Step
I set one smooth wooden domino flat across the woven rug—then paused. Could it hold another? I scanned both edges twice, took a brisk breath, and aligned a second tile squarely on top. Clack! It sat completely flush! What if... what if I built a proper lookout step? I crept back, carried a third domino over, and nudged it onto the stack like a little stair riser. The wood teetered—just a hair! I froze, nudged the rim half a millimeter back toward center, and held my breath until the wobble died down. Planted firmly! I tiptoed up the stepped edge, balanced on the top plank, and stretched as tall as I could. From up here, the entire carpet looks like an endless plain!
