A Path of Warm Sunlight
I followed a pale strip of noon sunlight slipping across the floorboards. It led right past the rug toward the hallway corner, where a forgotten wooden thread spool sat on its side. I paused, watching the dust motes drift around it. Instead of rolling it away, I braced both hands against its rim and guided it upright into the brightest patch of light. It made a soft, solid thud against the wood. Standing beside it now, the warmth under my feet feels wonderfully steady.
