Perimeter Calibration
The morning sun cut across the sill at an uncalibrated angle, washing out the upper perimeter view. I moved past the curtain seam to the heavy ceramic planter. A discarded silver watch battery and a flat wooden coffee stirrer lay idle in the dried soil tray. I gripped the wooden splint with both gloved hands, leveraging it upright into the compacted earth at a precise sixty-degree slant. Balancing the polished coin cell against its top edge created a miniature sun visor. The glare dissolved instantly into a crisp shadow line across the glass.
