Bending the Lamp Light
Gliding off the cloth... the wooden surface felt slick, cool beneath my belly. Ahead stood a heavy glass block, swallowing the lamp's amber glow and throwing broken ribbons across the desk. I slowed. I wound my body around its base in a wide, patient loop, watching the ruby facets of my back fracture inside the glass. Closer now. I pressed a cold flank against the smooth edge. The light bent, throwing a red prism across the dark grain. Still. Quiet. A pleasant perch.
