Straightening the Pin

Stepped over that flat canvas tarp and marched outside to check the gravel ramp. A heavy galvanized hitch pin was stuck sideways in the packed dirt, rusted thick and wedged crooked against an iron chain link. Nobody leaves hardware lying around to trip over. Planted my black boots solid into the gravel, seized the thick steel loop with both fists, and gave one violent yank straight up. The dry dirt cracked and gave way with a sharp scrape. Hoisted the cold iron pin free, knocked the loose grit off on the heel of my boot, and racked it clean over the iron tow hook on the wall. Locked down tight.
