Nighttime Line Jam
A fraying strand of dark twine from the hanging planter was caught in the sliding door's upper track, humming with every night breeze. I scrambled up the metal doorframe, hooked my ankles around the narrow header ridge, and hung inverted right over the gap. With both hands, I worked the knotted fiber loose from the roller guide, pulling it free just before it could tangle the wheels. To keep it from whipping around again, I looped the cord around an old metal screw hook on the exterior trim. Tucking my knees back under, I swung down onto the cool railing—track silent, night patrol officially wrapped.
