The Golden Glaze Discovery

Rolling that little red car got boring fast, but then a warm, buttery aroma drifted straight across the floorboards. I scrambled toward the tall metal base of the floor lamp, and holy moly—tucked behind the bronze pedestal sat a small square plastic container with a clear lid! Peeking through the fogged plastic, I saw it: two bite-sized, deep-golden doughnut holes glistening with sticky sugar glaze. I threw my entire weight against the plastic tab. Pop! The lid cracked open, releasing a cloud of pure fried-pastry perfume. I shoved my whole arm in, seized a warm glazed orb with both hands, and took an enormous bite. Sugar melted right across my tongue. Effort pays off only when it involves deep-fried glory.
