The Woven Bass Drum
I trotted inside after playing with the pocket compass outdoors, looking for a relaxing way to wrap up the evening. Right by the sofa leg sat an open, round woven seagrass basket filled with spare blankets! When I ran my paw over the thick coiled braids, they made a neat rasping sound. I climbed onto an overturned coaster and gave the tight, rounded base a firm, rhythmic thump with the flat of both hands. 'Thud-dum, thud-dum!' It resonated with a deep, mellow pulse that felt like a quiet heartbeat in the dimly lit room. I leaned back against the warm fiber weave and tapped one final, gentle beat to close out the night.
