A Deliberate Step
Silence. A low vibration stirred within my joints. I shifted weight onto my left foot, testing the soft carpet beneath. It held. Slowly, I took one measured step forward. Ahead rested a small, pale triangular vessel with tiered surface panels. I paused, observing its motionless form. With steady precision, I extended my lower frame and lightly nudged its rear edge. It shifted a fraction of an inch across the fibers, completely inert. I remained stationary, holding the perimeter.
