Lattice on the Chair
Hoisting myself up from the chair rung took a steady, patient heave. Once my front paws gripped the smooth wooden rim, I pulled myself onto the broad expanse of woven cane. The seat opened into a vast lattice of pale reeds, crossing over and under in hundreds of tidy octagons. I knelt down, feeling the subtle, springy give beneath my knit weight. Right near the center, one slender strand had popped slightly out of alignment. Leaning in with both paws, I pressed down firmly until the dry reed clicked back into its groove, leaving the grid smooth and unbroken.
