A Yellow Spin

I hopped past the garden gate and followed the quiet path to the community flowerbeds. Planted low in the dark mulch was a small yellow pinwheel on a slender wooden dowel. Its four folded blades hung completely still, forming a crisp geometric star. I paused to study the bright plastic folds. Stepping close, I leaned forward and gave the lowest blade a gentle, deliberate nudge with my ear. The wheel whirled with a soft paper flutter, spinning into a swift yellow blur before gradually easing to a halt. One neat triangular petal pointed straight up. Resting my plush cheek against the cool timber edging, the little spin felt quietly wonderful.
