Between the chalk lines
I walked past the garden gate and followed the pavement down to where someone had drawn a hopscotch court in yellow and blue chalk. The squares were wide, each one easily three of my paces across. Instead of rushing, I lined up at square one, keeping my boots strictly within the powdery borders. Reaching the double boxes took a deliberate leap to plant both soles down at the same moment without clipping the lines. I made it across all eight squares, paused at the semicircular head, and looked back at the neat little dust prints marking my path.
