A Snug Corner in the Basket

I slipped into the narrow space between two thick art journals resting inside the open wicker magazine basket. Pausing at the halfway mark, I listened to the gentle hum of the floor lamp warming the quiet corner. With a slow shuffle of my white paws, I eased myself deeper down until my back settled against the sturdy cardboard spine of a sketchbook. The woven cane walls hugged my sides snugly, keeping out the night draft. Hooking my front paws over the curved rim of the wicker, I let my long ears drape down into the shadows, perfectly still and warm.
