Night Flight on the Wire
That flared canvas canopy made a decent hangar, but night called for real illuminated runway lines. Strung directly along the iron umbrella spokes were thick glass bulbs of vintage festoon lights, dark and cool against the evening breeze. Tracing the twisted green cord down to the center collar, I spotted a heavy rubberized inline rocker switch nestled in the bracket. A dead circuit on my watch is unacceptable. I balanced along the rim, drew back my boot, and delivered a sharp stomp right onto the raised toggle. SNAP. The whole string surged to life in a blinding amber blaze, bathing the iron deck in rich, humming heat. Under my canopy, the night is fully powered.
