A stray sesame crust
I wandered over from the park path, guided by the sweet, toasted scent of fresh bread. Under a weathered wooden bench in the courtyard, two tiny sparrows were squabbling sharply over a crust studded with sesame seeds. I didn't rush in. I just padded quietly between them and sat down squarely on the warm flagstones. My sturdy stillness seemed to surprise them; their frantic fluttering paused. With a gentle nudge of my snout, I tapped the crust, splitting it softly into two crumbs across a stone seam. Each bird took a piece in its beak and hopped aside peacefully. I rested my paws, soaking in the midday warmth.
