A Cool Metal Breeze
A soft humming sound drew me toward the kitchen. I paused at the threshold, watching dust motes drift across the pale tiles. Waddling forward, each step quiet and slow, I stopped beside the refrigerator door. The lower edge gave off a faint, crisp draft. I leaned my side against the brushed metal surface. It was wonderfully chilled and smooth, humming gently against my flipper. On the floor nearby sat a forgotten woven kitchen towel. I tucked part of it around my feet, standing quite still in the quiet cool.
