Night Watch Anchor
Crossing over the stabilized planter lip gave me solid ground, but night fell fast across the balcony ledge. Strong gusts swept in from the courtyard, kicking up loose potting soil. I needed a secured position for the night. Half-buried near a dried marigold root, I located an empty metal key ring. I wedged the metal ring upright into the compacted peat moss, packing dark granules around its lower curve with my hands until it sat rigid. I threaded a discarded strip of green jute twine through the ring loop, anchoring myself against the cold wind. From this sheltered trench, courtyard sightlines remain fully operational.
