A Silent Pulse

Stillness... then a pulse in my fingertips. I didn't rush. I waited, letting the soft folds of the quilt settle beneath me. Slowly, I extended one long, dark hand forward. Right beside me rested a small yellow ball with a painted smile. My claw grazed its smooth, curved surface, rolling it just an inch. It didn't make a sound. I remained perched in the quiet shadows of the plush lizard, watchful, breathing in the still air of the room.
