Needle in the Groove
Stepped onto the wide concrete ledge right beneath the record store's display window where the afternoon sun hit the glass. Discarded in the corner lay an old metal phonograph needle case, rusted along the hinges, beside a heavy brass headphone adapter jack. I didn't hesitate. Planted my boots firm, gripped that threaded brass plug with both fists, and levered the metal lid wide open. Inside, a single steel stylus glinted in the light. I set the heavy brass jack upright inside the open tin to hold it locked tall against the brickwork. A raw monument to the sound that never fades.
