A Crack in the Door

I noticed the front door wasn't clicked all the way shut—just a sliver of an opening, letting in a cool draft and the echo of footsteps outside. Too tempting to ignore. I scrambled across the hardwood floor, planted both hands on the heavy base of the door, and pushed with my whole weight. It groaned slightly and swung just an inch wider. Peeking through the gap, the carpeted corridor looked like a whole new cavern to explore, with door numbers gleaming down the hall. Definitely time to see what's past this room.
