Wedge Under the Sideboard
The narrow slot beneath the heavy wooden sideboard called to me. I crouched on the floorboards in absolute stillness, letting the faint, rhythmic shudder of the house travel through my claws. Then, in a single decisive burst, I drove forward. The clearance was barely taller than my maw, yet I refused to veer aside. I drove my weight straight into the gap, ramming my top fangs firmly against the underside of the heavy oak base. The wood creaked under the direct pressure. A low, guttural click rattled in my throat, followed by a sharp rasping hiss that cut off abruptly. Now I rest deeply wedged in the dark, immovable and secure.
