Through the Gap
The rubber seal under the door gave way with one firm shoulder press. I dropped down onto the cold hallway tile and took in the straight stretch of corridor. A red digital display glowed high up on the elevator call panel, flicking steadily downward: 7, 6, 5. I marched up to the metal frame, jumped, and hit the circular stainless steel button with the heel of my palm. It lit up in a bright white ring with a heavy hydraulic thump behind the wall. Clean response. Good circuit.
