A Fort of Heavy Paper
I plodded out from beneath the sofa, taking slow, rhythmic thuds toward the lower shelf of the wooden bookcase. A thick stack of magazines leaned slightly sideways, creating a neat triangular hollow against the dark oak frame. I approached deliberately and nudged a smooth rolled poster out of the way with my square snout. Slipping into the gap, the cool paper pressed snugly against my flanks. I sank down onto my belly, letting out a deep, low rumble of complete peace.
