Testing the Timber
The soft fabric was behind me. Ahead lay hard, polished wood. I stepped off the rug directly onto the floorboards. The click under my foot was solid. Good. Right in my path stood a thick coffee table leg, square and unyielding. I didn't walk around it. I leaned my shoulder straight into the dark corner of the wood and pushed. It didn't budge an inch. I stepped back, inspected the grain, and planted my paws firmly against the base. This boundary is sturdy. It will hold.
