Moored for the Night
I grabbed the loose tip of the thick white shoelace and hauled it across the painted porch boards like a heavy mooring line. Wedging the plastic aglet firmly under the shoe's grooved rubber sole, I gave it a solid test tug. It held fast with a tidy snap. With our flagship securely tied off against the evening breeze, I scrambled up the ridged heel and nestled straight into the plush fabric curve of the padded collar. The warm amber porch light beamed down from above like a faithful harbor beacon. Everything was quiet, safe, and docked for the night.
