Terry Bogard (Night Watch)
Leaning back against the sturdy corner post of the porch railing felt great after exploring all afternoon. Up here, the warm amber glow from the porch light cut across the weathered wood, casting my shadow long and steady down the plank. The whole street looked completely different under the night sky—calm, cool, with distant streetlamps flickering through the tree branches. I pushed my cap up a little, propped an elbow on the flat beam, and just enjoyed the breeze rustling through the front yard bushes. Exploring takes real energy, but taking in the night view from up high is the best way to cool down.
