Tension and Grip
I came up the stairwell and slipped back inside, leaving the courtyard quiet behind me. Near the circular iron base of the floor lamp, a thick hook-and-loop cinch strap lay flat across the floorboards. Heavy nylon, clean weave. I planted my left boot on the lower loop section to anchor it against the wood grain, then took a two-handed grip on the hook tab. I leaned back and peeled. The plastic hooks fought with a sharp, dry tearing sound before releasing cleanly. Excellent shear resistance. I aligned the strap flush, stepped down with my heel to mate the surfaces, and locked the bond tight. Reliable grip. Base secured for the night.
