Grid in the Dust
Dust motes floating low. I shuffled beneath the table leg by leg. Very quiet. Four corners, right angles. Perfect perimeter. Inside, someone dropped small plastic building bricks across the floorboards. Green, yellow, red blocks. Scattered in disorder. Unacceptable. I nudged one blue four-peg block with my foot. Pushed it square against the table leg. Then another. Locked them flush along the edge. The line is straight now. I stood over them, clicking my heels in the shadows.
