Securing the Watchtower
The shadows deepened across the perimeter, signaling the need for an elevated vantage point. I advanced to the lower shelf of the dark timber bookcase. A massive, leather-bound tome lay half-open like an abandoned rampart, its heavy pages jutting out. I did not hesitate. Gripping the rugged trim, I hauled myself onto the lower parchment ledge and planted my boots directly atop a gilded brass bookmark ribbon. Using my crimson blade as a lever against the thick spine, I wedged the ribbon tight beneath my heel. The sector is now surveyed from high ground. No movement will escape my gaze tonight.
