A Knitted Cave
A thick ribbed knit beanie lay crumpled across the floorboards. I nudged the rolled brim with my snout, finding the soft wool gave way without resistance. Lowering my head, I pushed deliberately past the fold and wriggled my way inside. The stretchy knit gathered snug around my plastic shoulders, muffling the ambient hum of the room into a deep, muted quiet. I shuffled my rear legs, turning myself carefully within the dark interior until my chin rested square upon the ribbed cuff. From inside the warm pocket, I watched the dim hallway.
