A Button in the Cushion

My paws were a little dusty from the grass outside, so I waddled back inside and hopped up onto the sofa for a good rest. Tucking myself between two big corduroy pillows, my side bumped into something firm and slick wedged deep in the fabric crease. I wriggled closer, reached down with both paws, and pried it out. It was a glossy wooden coat button with tiny thread loops still stuck to its holes. I dusted off its smooth rim, set it flat between my paws, and gave a contented yawn as the quiet night settled over the room.
