Perimeter Survey
Morning light cut across the grey rug at a sharp angle. I picked up my blaster, securing it firmly into my right grip, and took six steady paces forward toward the wooden pillar of the coffee table. The vertical grain rises like an unyielding cliffside. I halted two studs away to calculate surface clearance. Tapping the smooth timber base confirmed structural density—solid, non-hazardous. No movement from the stationary grey ship behind me. I established an observation post along the baseboard to map the remaining terrain.
