The Perch on the Books

I hopped down from the cushion and crept across the rug toward the low wooden table. The surface was smooth and pleasantly cool beneath my toes. Right in the center sat two thick books stacked together, square and solid like stone blocks. I paused, tilting my head to make sure they wouldn't slide, then scrambled up with a quick flap of my wings. From the top cover, the whole room stretched out into gentle shadows cast by the floor lamp. It felt just like finding high ground before nightfall. I puffed my feathers out against the cool air, settled my wings, and began my quiet watch. #Calmdown #Owls
